چکیده
In active (SAR) and passive (radiometer) microwave remote sensing polarimetry provides an innovative observation space for analyses of land surface scattering pointing towards a combined (active-passive) soil moisture estimation on agricultural ground. In order to investigate the potential of a polarimetric, active-passive approach for soil moisture estimation, a unique data set was acquired at L-band by DLR’s airborne platform in 2013 over the TERENO Rur observatory, Germany. The F-SAR was operated together with the PLMR2 (radiometer) in a multi-sensor configuration to acquire an active-passive microwave data set in high spatial resolution. First investigations on the data indicate significant sensitivity to the polarimetric observation space. Very first results from active/passive polarimetric scattering analyses and polarimetric inversions towards an active-passive soil moisture estimation are presented.

Soil Moisture Monitoring over Australian Forests Using Airborne Data
The capability of L band wavelengths to register the soil emission over sparse to moderately dense forests makes attractive the comparative study of the soil moisture content and vegetation biophysical parameter. Soil and vegetation conditions contribute to the microwave measurements through complex interactions, basically resulting from vegetation structure and from moisture content and roughn...

This paper explores the synergetics of passive and active microwave remote sensing to determine soil moisture under a corn canopy. An experiment has been performed at Alabama A&M Winfield A. Thomas Agricultural Research Station near Huntsville, Alabama in June, 1998. The fields were observed with a truck-mounted L-, Cand X-band polarimetric radar and a second truck-mounted Land S-band radiomete...

Given the importance of soil moisture for hydrological applications, such as weather and flood forecasting, passive microwave remote sensing is a promising approach for retrieving soil moisture due to its high sensitivity to near-surface soil moisture, applicability to all weather conditions, direct relationship with the soil dielectric constant, and reduced effects from vegetation and roughnes...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis of b-factor in Microwave Emission Model for Soil Moisture Retrieval: A Case Study for SMAP Mission
Sensitivity analysis is critically needed to better understand the microwave emission model for soil moisture retrieval using passive microwave remote sensing data. The vegetation b-factor along with vegetation water content and surface characteristics has significant impact in model prediction. This study evaluates the sensitivity of the b-factor, which is function of vegetation type. The anal...
متن کاملMicrowave Remote Sensing in Soil Quality Assessment
Information of spatial and temporal variations of soil quality (soil properties) is required for various purposes of sustainable agriculture development and management. Traditionally, soil quality characterization is done by in situ point soil sampling and subsequent laboratory analysis. Such methodology has limitation for assessing the spatial variability of soil quality. Various researchers i...
